Teacher Resume for India
A teacher resume is read by a principal or HR coordinator who wants to know three things: what you teach, how well your students do, and whether you are properly qualified. This guide shows how to present all three clearly.
Start with a short summary of your subject, board and level, then list teaching experience with student outcomes, then qualifications (B.Ed, TET/CTET) and skills. Keep it to one page for under ten years of experience, in a plain, ATS-friendly layout.
What school recruiters look for
Schools hire for a specific class range and subject, so a general resume works against you. Before writing, note the vacancy details: subject, classes (for example Class 6 to 10), board (CBSE, ICSE or a state board) and any extra duties such as class teacher or coordinator work.
Then make sure the top third of your resume answers those points. If the vacancy is for PGT Mathematics under CBSE, say so in your summary instead of making the reader dig through your history.
- Subject and class range appear in the first three lines
- Board experience (CBSE/ICSE/State/IB) is named
- B.Ed and eligibility test status are easy to find
- At least two bullets show what students achieved
Also keep your language simple. Principals read many applications in one sitting, so short bullets that start with a verb (taught, planned, coordinated, mentored) are easier to absorb than long paragraphs about your teaching philosophy. Save the philosophy for the interview or demo class.
Best format and section order
Use a reverse-chronological format on a single column. Fancy graphics, tables for layout and text inside images can confuse applicant-tracking software that larger school groups and ed-tech companies use.
- Header: name, phone, email, city, and the subject and level you teach.
- Summary: two to three lines.
- Teaching experience: school, city, designation, dates, bullets.
- Qualifications: degree, B.Ed, TET/CTET, other certificates.
- Skills: classroom and digital skills.
- Extra roles and achievements: exam duty, clubs, events, training programmes.
Freshers with a recent B.Ed can move Qualifications above Experience and include practice-teaching or internship details. For the general rules on length, see how long a resume should be.
Writing the summary
A good teacher summary names your subject, level, years and one strength. It should sound like you, not a template.
PGT Mathematics teacher with 7 years of experience in CBSE senior secondary classes (XI-XII). Experienced in board exam preparation, concept-based lesson planning and mentoring weaker students. B.Ed and CTET qualified.
If you are new to teaching, replace years of experience with your training: "B.Ed graduate with a 12-week teaching internship in Class 6-8 Science". More ideas are in these resume summary examples.
Turn duties into outcomes
Most teacher resumes say "taught Class 9 Science". That is a duty, and every other applicant has the same line. Show what changed because of your teaching. Use numbers only when you actually have them, such as your own class results, and be honest about the comparison.
| Weak (duty) | Stronger (outcome) |
|---|---|
| Taught Mathematics to Class 10 | Taught Class 10 Mathematics to 4 sections; ran weekly doubt sessions that helped more students clear the pre-board cut-off |
| Responsible for class tests | Designed unit tests aligned to board pattern and used error analysis to plan revision |
| Handled class teacher duties | Class teacher for 42 students; held monthly parent meetings and tracked attendance and progress |
| Used smart board | Built slide-based lessons and short quizzes for the smart board to improve participation in Class 7 Science |
If you do not have exact figures, describe the method and the direction of change honestly rather than inventing a percentage. Principals can verify claims at the reference stage.
Fictional example: experience section
PGT Mathematics - City Public School, Pune | Jun 2019 - Present
- Teach Mathematics to Classes XI and XII (CBSE) across 3 sections, about 120 students
- Prepare chapter-wise worksheets and a mistake log, used for revision before pre-boards
- Coordinate the Class XII Mathematics paper-setting team for internal exams
- Conduct remedial classes twice a week for students scoring below the class average
- Mentor 25 students for the school Maths Olympiad
TGT Mathematics - Greenfield Junior School, Nashik | Jul 2016 - May 2019
- Taught Classes VI to VIII and introduced activity-based lessons with models and puzzles
- Organised the annual Maths Week with quizzes and a model exhibition
Notice how each line names a class, a group size or a method. That specificity is what makes it believable.
Qualifications and certifications
List your qualifications with the board or university and the year. For teachers, the order matters less than clarity.
- Degrees: B.Sc/B.A./B.Com plus M.Sc/M.A. where relevant
- B.Ed or D.El.Ed: required for most school posts; write the university and year
- TET/CTET/State TET: mention the paper (I or II) and that you are qualified; add the certificate year
- Subject or pedagogy courses: for example Google Certified Educator, a CBSE training workshop, or a Montessori diploma for early years
Do not list a qualification you are still pursuing as completed. Write "B.Ed (appearing, final year 2026)" if that is the case.
Skills that fit teaching jobs
Split skills into two short lists so the reader can scan them. Pick only those you can discuss in an interview.
- Lesson planning and curriculum mapping (NCERT/board syllabus)
- Formative and summative assessment
- Classroom management and positive discipline
- Differentiated instruction and support for slow learners
- Parent-teacher communication
- Google Classroom, Zoom/Meet for online sessions
- PowerPoint and Canva for teaching material
- Excel or Google Sheets for marks analysis

Common mistakes teachers make
- Writing a subject-less resume. Always name the subject and class range.
- Listing only duties. Add one outcome per role.
- Hiding gaps. If you took a career break, a one-line honest note such as "Career break for childcare, 2021-2023; completed online pedagogy courses" is better than silence.
- Too long. Two pages are acceptable for senior teachers or coordinators, otherwise stay at one.
- Photos and personal details overload. Check our note on photos on a resume; many schools ask for a biodata-style form, which is different from a resume. See biodata format if requested.

Create my resume →Frequently asked questions
What should a teacher resume include?
A summary with your subject and level, teaching experience with outcomes, qualifications such as B.Ed and TET/CTET, and a focused skills list.
Should I add my CTET or TET result?
Yes. Mention the paper, the year and that you are qualified, since many schools use it as an eligibility check.
How do I write a resume as a fresher teacher?
Lead with your education and B.Ed, then describe practice teaching, internships, tuition or volunteer teaching with specific classes and topics.
Is one page enough for a teacher resume?
Yes for most teachers. Two pages are fine for heads of department or coordinators with long, relevant experience.
Do I need a cover letter for a school job?
It helps when you apply by email. A short note naming the post, subject and why you suit the school adds useful context.
