MBA Fresher Resume for Campus Placements
At a B-school placement, your resume is often the only thing a recruiter reads before an interview panel picks questions. This guide shows how to build a one-page MBA fresher resume that is easy to read and easy to defend.
An MBA fresher resume for Indian campus placements should be one page, start with education and your summer internship, then list academic projects, positions of responsibility and achievements. Use short bullets that show what you did and what changed, and tune the emphasis to your specialisation (finance, marketing, HR, operations or analytics).
How the campus placement resume works
Most B-schools circulate a standard resume template or a resume book. If your placement cell gives a format, follow it exactly: the order of sections, font and margins are usually fixed so that recruiters can compare students quickly. This guide is for the content inside that frame, and for situations where you are free to design your own.
Remember that every line on your resume is a possible interview question. A panel will pick a bullet and ask "how exactly did you do this?". Write only what you can explain in detail, including the numbers, the team, and what you would do differently.
Section order for MBA freshers
| Order | Section | What goes in it |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Header | Name, phone, email, LinkedIn, programme and batch |
| 2 | Education | MBA/PGDM, graduation, class XII, class X, with scores as your school lists them |
| 3 | Work experience or internship | Previous jobs first if you have them, then the summer internship |
| 4 | Academic projects | Live projects, consulting or case projects |
| 5 | Positions of responsibility | Club, committee and event roles |
| 6 | Achievements and certifications | Case competitions, scholarships, relevant courses |
| 7 | Extracurriculars | Sports, arts, volunteering (brief) |
If you have two or more years of prior work experience, move that section above your internship and give it the most space. Freshers without experience can give the summer internship equal weight to the first role. Whatever the order, one page is the norm; see how long a resume should be.
Writing the summer internship section
The summer internship is usually the most important part of an MBA fresher resume because it is your closest evidence of professional work. Start with the company, role, duration and your project title. Then write three to four bullets in this pattern: action + method + outcome.
Sales Intern, Greenleaf Foods Ltd (fictional) | May - July 2026
- Project: reasons for slow secondary sales of a new snack range in general trade outlets in one city.
- Visited 60 retail outlets with the area sales manager and recorded shelf placement, stock and shopkeeper feedback.
- Compared outlet data with distributor sales in Excel; found that outlets without a counter display reordered less often.
- Presented three recommendations to the regional team; the team chose to pilot counter displays in 10 outlets.
Notice that the outcome is described honestly: a pilot was chosen, not "sales grew". If your internship ended before results were visible, say what decision your work informed. Avoid generic lines such as "learned teamwork and communication".
Academic projects that add value
Choose projects that show skills the recruiter cares about for your target role. Good candidates are live projects with a company, consulting projects for a local business, a market research survey, a financial model, or a data analysis assignment.
Did a project on customer satisfaction for a retail store.
After (fictional example)Surveyed 120 customers of a neighbourhood grocery store on delivery speed and pricing; used Excel pivot tables to find that late deliveries were the main complaint; suggested a revised slot system to the owner.
Always state the tools used, the sample size or scope, and your own role in a group project. Do not claim a group result as your individual work; panels often ask each member to explain their part.
Positions of responsibility
Positions of responsibility (PoRs) show leadership, ownership and teamwork. Do not just write "Member, Marketing Club". Say what you handled: team size, event scale, budget or deadlines you managed, and what you delivered.
- Weak: Coordinator, annual management fest.
- Stronger: Led a 12-member sponsorship team for the annual fest; contacted 40 local businesses and closed sponsorships with 9 of them (fictional example).
Pick three to five PoRs at most. Quality beats quantity, and a long list of memberships can look like padding.
Specialisation-wise emphasis
The same student can tilt the resume towards the role being applied for. Do not change facts; change which facts come first.
- Finance: Valuation or financial modelling projects, Excel skills, certifications such as NISM modules you have really completed, equity research assignments.
- Marketing and sales: Field work, consumer surveys, campaign plans, brand or digital projects, outlet or customer counts.
- HR: Recruitment drives you helped run, engagement surveys, policy case studies, training sessions you organised.
- Operations and supply chain: Process mapping, inventory or logistics analysis, Lean or Six Sigma training you completed, any plant visit report.
- Business analytics: SQL, Excel, Power BI or Python projects with a dataset and a clear business question.
If you apply to several kinds of roles, keep one master version and prepare a lightly edited copy for each. Your career objective or summary, if the template allows one, should name the function you are targeting.
Formatting rules that save space and attention
- Use a clean font such as Calibri or Arial at 10-11 pt for body text, with consistent margins.
- Use past tense for finished work and present tense for current roles.
- Keep bullets to one or two lines each.
- Do not add a photo unless the placement template asks for one; see photo on resume in India.
- Save as PDF unless the portal requests Word; check PDF or Word.
- Remove personal details that are not asked for, such as full home address or father's name, unless the college format includes them.
For the general layout of early-career resumes, the resume format for freshers guide is a useful companion.
Pre-submission checklist
- Does every bullet begin with a strong verb and end with an outcome or a clear scope?
- Can you explain every number and tool in two minutes?
- Are marks and dates identical to your marksheets and the college database?
- Is the resume exactly one page, in PDF, with the file named like Name_Programme_Specialisation?
- Have a senior or placement mentor read it once for typos.

Create my resume →Frequently asked questions
Should an MBA fresher resume be one page?
Yes, one page is the norm for campus placements, even if you have prior work experience. Cut older or less relevant items instead of shrinking the font below a readable size.
Do I list class X and XII marks on an MBA resume?
Many placement formats include them, so follow your college template. If you are free to design the resume, list them briefly in the education table.
What if my summer internship was unpaid or short?
Include it. Recruiters care about what you did and learned, not the stipend. Describe the project, your method and what the company did with your findings.
How many positions of responsibility should I include?
Three to five of the most relevant ones. Describe your role, the scale of the work and the result for each, rather than listing every club you joined.
Should I write a career objective?
Only if your college template has space for it. Keep it to one line naming the function you want, such as marketing or finance, and avoid generic phrases.
